Frequently Asked Questions
Everything people ask before they send their imaging. If your question is not here, ask it on WhatsApp — you will get an answer, not a brochure.
Before You Enquire
Your X-ray, CT or MRI — photographs of the films taken on your phone are usually enough — plus the written radiology report if you have it, and a short description of your symptoms and how long you have had them.
Yes. Reviewing your imaging and issuing a written plan with full costs carries no charge and no obligation. You are free to take that plan elsewhere.
A written treatment plan is normally returned within two working days of receiving usable imaging.
X-ray, CT and MRI from accredited hospitals are reviewed directly. If a specific sequence is missing you will be told before you travel, not on arrival.
Costs and Insurance
Surgeon’s fee, anaesthesia, imported implants and consumables, operating theatre, the quoted inpatient stay, in-hospital nursing and routine medication, pre-operative bloods and standard imaging, and a bilingual discharge summary.
Flights, accommodation, airport transfer, escort services, visas, meals for accompanying family, treatment of unrelated conditions, and any extended stay arising from complications.
We support claims with all major insurers — pre-approval documentation before treatment, and bilingual records and itemised invoices afterwards. What is reimbursed is decided by your insurer under your policy.
Payment is made directly to the treating hospital. Terms and accepted currencies are confirmed in writing with your treatment plan.
Medical and Clinical
A named orthopaedic consultant whose subspecialty matches your diagnosis. The specialist who reviews your imaging is the one who will see you.
That is a legitimate outcome. If conservative treatment is more appropriate you will be told so, at no charge — a recommendation not to operate is as useful as one to operate.
Imported implant systems — the same brands used in leading private hospitals. The specific system is named in your written plan before you commit.
Partner consultants each have 20–30 years of clinical experience and operate at hospitals meeting national Grade-III standards, with 3.0T MRI, dual-source CT and DSA angiography available.
Yes — this is one of the most common reasons people contact us. Send the imaging and the plan you have been given.
Practical Arrangements
No. IMC coordinates your medical care and insurance claim. Travel, accommodation and transfers are arranged by you — see Patient Services for exactly where our role begins and ends.
English, Cantonese and Mandarin, at every stage. A named coordinator is assigned to your case.
Yes. Partner hospitals have single rooms with companion seating. Meals and accommodation for accompanying family are not part of the package price.
It depends entirely on the procedure. Expected length of stay is stated in your written plan before you book anything.
After Treatment
You leave with a bilingual discharge summary and a written rehabilitation plan. Your coordinator follows up remotely at agreed intervals and further consultant review can be arranged.
Fitness to fly is confirmed by your consultant before discharge, based on the procedure and your recovery.
Contact your coordinator. Your consultant can review remotely, and if local treatment is needed we provide the records your local doctor will ask for.
Send Your Scans. Get a Specialist Opinion in 48 Hours.
Upload your X-ray, CT or MRI report and tell us where it hurts. A consultant reviews your case personally and returns a treatment plan with a full cost breakdown within two working days. The assessment is free and carries no obligation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions Patients Ask Before Getting in Touch
Grouped by what you are trying to work out. If your question is not here, message a coordinator — there is no script and no obligation.
Getting Started
Entirely remotely to begin with. Send your imaging report and a short symptom history by WhatsApp or through the assessment form. A coordinator confirms receipt, checks whether anything is missing, and passes the case to a consultant in the relevant subspecialty. Nothing requires you to be in China at this stage.
No. The initial review, the written summary of options and the itemised cost estimate are all free. Costs begin only if you decide to proceed with treatment.
Send the report anyway. Routing the case to the right subspecialty is the coordinator’s job. If the imaging points somewhere other than where you expected, you will be told which consultant is better placed and why.
A coordinator confirms receipt the same working day, Monday to Saturday, 09:00–19:00 HKT. The consultant’s written review normally follows within 48 hours of a complete submission.
Yes. Message the WhatsApp number and ask whatever you need to first. There is no requirement to send records to start a conversation.
Medical Records & Review
Yes. Reports and images from accredited hospitals are accepted in PDF, JPG or DICOM format. In most cases imaging does not need to be repeated, which saves both time and cost. If a scan is too old or a view is missing, the consultant will say which additional imaging is needed and why.
Normally within 48 hours of receiving a complete set of records. Complex cases, or cases that need a second subspecialty opinion, can take longer — your coordinator will tell you if that applies and give you a revised time.
The imaging report and the images themselves; a short history of when symptoms started and what makes them worse; any treatment already tried; previous operation notes for the same joint; your age; and any other medical conditions or current medication.
It is useful as a baseline, but for a treatment decision the consultant usually needs current imaging. The review will say whether a repeat is needed and which specific views to request, so you are not paying for scans that will not answer the question.
Consultants are paid for the review, not the procedure. A recommendation of conservative treatment, of watchful waiting, or of no treatment at all is a normal outcome and is stated in writing with the reasoning. If IMC is not the right route for your case, you will be told that too.
Yes — that is a common reason people write in. Send the imaging and, if you have it, the written recommendation you were given. The review states whether the imaging supports that operation and what the alternatives are.
Treatment & Hospitals
Accredited tertiary hospitals in mainland China with departments that take international patients. The specific hospital for your case is named in your written plan, along with the treating consultant, before you commit to anything. IMC does not own or operate any hospital.
If you proceed at that consultant’s hospital, yes. Where a second subspecialty is involved, both consultants are named in the written plan before you decide.
Partner departments use imported implants and consumables from established manufacturers, and operate 3.0T MRI, CT, DSA and arthroscopic systems maintained to national standards. The specific implant chosen for your case is named in your estimate.
Yes. Coordination is available in English, 廣東話 and 普通話. Your written treatment summary, cost estimate and discharge documentation are prepared bilingually so that a physician at home can read them. Where a consultant works in Mandarin only, the coordinator interprets.
You receive a bilingual discharge summary and rehabilitation protocol written so your own physician or physiotherapist can pick it up directly. Follow-up questions go through your coordinator, and further review appointments can be arranged if needed.
No one can promise that — not IMC, not the hospital, not the surgeon. Outcomes vary between individuals and depend on clinical findings, other medical conditions and rehabilitation. What is set out in writing is the reasoning, the expected inpatient stay, the recovery milestones and the factors that could change the plan.
Costs & Payment
Indicative package ranges for the common procedures are published on the Treatment Costs page. Your own figure comes from an itemised written estimate after a consultant has read your imaging — a range is not a quotation.
Because the operation is not fixed until the films have been read. A range reflects the span between a straightforward case and a complex one for the same procedure. Once your plan is set you receive a figure in writing, before admission.
The treating hospital, against the hospital’s own itemised invoice. IMC does not collect treatment fees.
That depends on your policy, and it is a question for your insurer. IMC prepares complete bilingual documentation — treatment plan, itemised invoice, discharge summary — in the format insurers normally ask for, but makes no representation about whether a policy will pay.
Management of unrelated pre-existing conditions, complications requiring an extended stay, outpatient medication after discharge, and imaging outside the agreed plan. Flights, accommodation and visas are not provided by IMC. The full breakdown is on the Treatment Costs page.
Scope, Privacy & Safety
IMC arranges medical assessment, specialist appointments and treatment coordination. It does not arrange flights, accommodation, visas or any other non-medical itinerary, and it does not diagnose or treat — clinical care is delivered by the treating hospital and its physicians.
Records are shared only with the coordinator assigned to your case and the consultant reviewing it. They are not published, sold or used for marketing, and are never shown as a case example. You can ask for your files to be deleted at any time by writing to info@imcdoctor.com.
Because individual stories are a poor basis for a medical decision, and publishing them would mean using patients as marketing. What is published instead is the reasoning: what the imaging shows, what the options are, and what would change the plan.
New bladder or bowel changes, numbness around the saddle area, rapidly progressing weakness, a hot swollen joint with fever, an inability to bear weight after a fall, or an unreduced dislocation. All of these need assessment locally the same day — do not wait for a remote review.
No. Submitting an assessment form, or receiving a written review, does not create a doctor–patient relationship. That relationship is formed with the treating physician if and when you proceed to treatment.
Still not answered?
Message a coordinator directly. If IMC is not the right route for your case, you will be told so — that is a normal answer here, not a failed enquiry.
